The purpose of this event is to hear from colleagues across the College of Social Sciences about their relationship to Stuart Hall in terms of research, scholarship and teaching.
Following a brief introduction from Nick Beech of the Stuart Hall Archive Project, we will screen ‘Making Sense of Society’ (1974). A documentary written and presented by Stuart Hall, made at the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies for the Open University, ‘Making Sense of Society’ is an early presentation of the work at the Centre that culminated in the seminal text Policing the Crisis (1978).
Following the screening we will have an open discussion about the impact of Hall’s work on the social sciences, and current staff at the University of Birmingham in particular, which the Stuart Hall Archive Project will use to inform further research and teaching based on the archive.
